He started turning wood in 1997 and has been a member of several local, regional, and international woodturning associations. He is self-taught and looks to combine both art and function in many of the pieces he designs. While not limited to domestic hardwoods, his work most often features Canadian maple, cherry, walnut or oak. Examples of Irwin’s work can be found in shops, galleries, exhibits, and private collections across North American.
